Brighton have agreed a deal to sign Paraguayan midfielder Diego Gomez from MLS side Inter Miami.
The 21-year-old midfielder will move to the Premier League when the transfer window opens on January 1, 2025.
Gomez began his professional career with Libertad in Paraguay before moving to Lionel Messi’s current club Inter Miami in July 2023.
Brighton say Gomez has agreed to join the club for an undisclosed fee.
Brighton’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, stating, “We’re looking forward to working with Diego very soon. He has already made a real impression both at club and international level.” Hurzeler acknowledged that Gomez will need time to adjust to the Premier League but is confident in his potential to make a big contribution.
After making his debut for Libertad in May 2022 in the Copa Libertadores. Gomez scored six goals in 52 appearances before moving to Inter Miami, where he scored on his MLS debut.
In his first season, he scored once in five games and has been a regular this year, scoring six goals in 28 games as Miami advances to the MLS playoffs.
The 6ft 10m midfielder was part of Paraguay’s squad for Register ufabet last summer’s Olympics. And has made 12 senior appearances for the national team.
Brighton’s technical director, David Weir, highlighted Gomez’s dynamic playing style and physical profile, noting that he will be ready to compete for a place in the squad upon his arrival.
